Prof. SK Memorial Lecture Workshop

 

Preamble

Prof. S. Kannaiyan Memorial NABS-Lecture Workshop, hereinafter will be called as “Prof. SK Memorial NABS-Lecture Workshop”, is one of the Scientific Events proposed and approved by Executive Council of NABS for the benefit of young biologists and teachers who are working in Colleges located far away from cities. As NABS could not organize NABS-National level Conferences in such places for obvious strategic reasons, the present Lecture Workshop is planned.
 

The lecture workshop is a one day event in which at least FOUR lectures relevant to the proposed theme are planned.

  • Dr. Ravi Kumar Theodore, Dean, Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture who presided over the function welcomed the gathering.

  • Prof. Dr. T. Marimuthu, Secretary, NABS delivered as special lecture highlighting the importance of the workshop and the role played by NABS for the benefit of biologists.

  • The Chief Guest, Dr. M. Jawaharlal, Dean, Horticulture College and Research Institute, TNAU, Coimbatore delivered Inaugural address

  • Thiru A. Balasubramanian, Executive Officer, KIA, proposed vote of thanks

Program-Valedictory

  • The Valedictory function was held in the evening after the lectures.

  • The Dean, Dr. Ravi Kumar Theodore presided. Dr. M. Kayalvizhi, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) welcomed the gathering. Thiru P. Ashok Kumar, Assistant General Manager, Sakthi Sugars Ltd., delivered a special lecture.  The feedback was given by the participants. All of them unanimously expressed the usefulness of the lectures and requested to conduct more such workshops.

  • Thiru. K. Sudhakar, Senior General Manager (Distilleries), Sakthi Sugars Ltd. Was the Chief Guest and delivered valedictory address.

  • The participation certificates were distributed to all the students.  The Chief Guest distributed the certificates for the best exhibitions arranged in lieu of the Lecture Workshop.

  • Dr. S. Ramesh Kumar, HOD, Horticulture, KIA and the convener of the Lecture Workshop proposed vote of thanks. The program was concluded with National Anthem.

 

Feed-back from students

  • Overall, students wanted to have more number of such programs in future.

  • Field visits, wherever possible could be arranged for the students

  • Arrangement of exhibition and conduct of quiz program during the technical sessions were appreciated by participants.

Uniqueness:

  • Planting saplings of Indian Elm, Aaya Maram, (Holoptelea integrifolia (Roxb.) Planach) used as a medicinal plant to cure rheumatism at North Farm of KIA.

  • The program was meticulously planned; the exhibitions and quiz program are extra addition to the regular program which was very unique and added value to the program.
