Research Area

Elucidation of biochemical and molecular mechanisms of plants during abiotic and biotic stresses, utilization of rjhizospheric bacteria with multiple traits for plant growth promotion, alleviation of abiotic and biotic stresses. Immunodetection of pathogens for early and specific plant disease detection and diagnosis; Solid Waste management through value added vermicomposting and mushroom cultivation

Awards and fellowships

J.F.Dastur Award by the Indian Phytopathological Society (IPS), Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, 2017;V.P.Bhide Memorial Award  of Indian Society of Mycology & Plant Pathology, 2017;  Woman Leadership Award’ for significant contribution in Agricultural Microbiology, Asian PGPR Society, 2014; Prof. D. Lalithakumari Endowment Lecture Award from Centre for Advanced Studies, University of Madras,  2013; Gold medal from University of Calcutta for First Class First in M.Sc., Botany, 1976 and also an Endowment Silver Medal;National Merit Scholarship from Ministry of Education and Youth Affairs, Govt. of India, for obtaining high position in SSLC Examination, Kerala, 1970-71

Other research awards won by research scholars:P P Singhal Memorial Pesticides India Industries Award from Indian Society of Mycology and Plant Pathology (ISMPP), during 2012 and 2010; Prof. K.S. Bilgrami award for the best paper from Indian Society of Mycology and Plant Pathology (ISMPP), during 2010 and 2007; Best paper award Fifth International Conference on “Biopesticides : Stake Holders’ Perspective”, organized at TERI, New Delhi, during April 26-30, 2009; Guman Devi Verma Award from ISMPP ,2008.
